LPD searching for suspect who lit fireworks on doorstep of two Lincoln homes

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Police are searching for a man they say exploded artillery shells at two South Lincoln homes Sunday night.

According to police, a resident in the 1800 block of Teal Circle heard a knock on his front door around 10:00 p.m. Sunday night. When he opened the door, an artillery shell firework exploded and his home filled with smoke. Police say he narrowly escaped serious injury because he opened the door immediately after it exploded.

Then, at 11:15 on the same night a woman living in the 7500 block of South Street told police she heard her doorbell ring and when she looked through her Vivant video doorbell she saw an artillery shell firework explode on her doorstep.

The estimated damage for the Teal Circle home is $700 and $400 for the resident on South Street. The Teal Street victim told police he saw an older-model, red SUV leaving the area after the incident.

The investigation is ongoing. Call Lincoln Crimestoppers at (402) 475-3600 if you have any information.
